Chellie Robinson, CB&T Financial Services, Darlington,SC

In 2000 when Carolina Bank of Darlington, SC decided to develop an insurance operation to complement their banking business they decided not to buy an existing agency but to grow one from scratch.  They tried accessing markets through other agencies and brokers for a few years but missed the efficiencies of working directly with their carriers.

Chellie Robinson, independent insurance agent“We joined Iroquois in 2004,” said Assistant VP Chellie Robinson “because we wanted direct access to carriers that Iroquois could give us, and we knew that the smaller volume requirements through Iroquois meant that we could support more companies than we could get on our own.”
Chellie joined CB&T in 2005 after retiring from decades in the industry “but then this opportunity came along and I took it.” She now wears many hats, running the agency and being a primary producer. “I am fortunate to have an excellent team who have really helped fuel our growth.”
CB&T now writes about $1.7 million in premium and in 2013 they became a Level 1 member in the Iroquois PartnerPlan with over $1 million in premium with Iroquois-provided carriers.  “Hitting Level 1 makes a big difference. Now I can really see the additional financial benefits,” said Chellie. “Our primary reason for joining Iroquois was to access markets but profit sharing is having a greater impact now. In fact, our profit sharing grew by more than 400% this year with Iroquois!”
